After being misdiagnosed and refused a scan by several doctors, I finally resorted to waiting 8 hours in the A & E at POW Hospital; from the moment I was finally seen, my experience was quite different. Not only was I taken seriously but I was also treated with respect and involved in all my consultations, which was gratifying and empowering. I was treated with tremendous care and compassion by almost every member of staff, from the porter and the food trolley lady to the specialists who saw me in the ICU.
Throughout my 7 week stay the nurses were quite simply angels, and the majority of the doctors were kind, encouraging and humorous, which I really appreciated. The follow-up care has been pretty amazing too; my nutritionist and speech pathologist especially have felt like cheerleaders, inspiring me to do my best to recover. I feel very privileged to have been cared for by such a lovely and professional team in a public hospital.
