"Refused treatment"

About: Swan Hill District Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

Immersive Reader

I care for someone who has an Addiction.

Almost, everything, they are trying to Detox, themselves, and then has health issues from this, ends up going to the Emergency Department. One Doctor refused any treatment.

Other than this I believe the person is being told that it is a waste of resources, and then proceeds to tell that sick person how much the treatment is costing the Hospital!

Dear earthng56,

Firstly, what a difficult but valuable role you are undertaking - caring for someone with addiction issues. I can imagine that would be very challenging.

It is extremely concerning to hear the person you care for has experienced a refusal of treatment and more so, been told their needs are a burden on the Service. I would very much like to investigate this - but I would need more information from you to do this.

Could you please contact me at kacurran@shdh.org.au so that I can look into this ASAP?

Alternatively, I can be contacted on telephone via the Health Service reception during business hours - if this is easier for you. Happy to talk about the matter at a time convenient to you.

Take care,

Kath
